Frank Way
Frank Way is attempting a World first - River boarding down the mighty Waikato river on the 13th December 2009 a mere 425km (over 7-12days).  After meeting Mike Horn (adventurer) earlier this year, Frank decided he would like to do a similar physical challenge, in addition to raising money and awareness for The Prostate Foundation of NZ.

Frank Way and his River Sled

There a several nutritional challenges that Frank has to face and hence why I have been involved in helping him achieve this fete in one piece.  Frank will attempt to carry all his own food and cooking provisions on his tiny river sled with a maximum weight limit of 18kg.  I have considered his estimated energy requirements based on his current weight and calculated his food requirements for up to 14days.  Back Country Cuisine are providing his quality freeze dried meals in addition to a few other dried products.  Frank will be on his board for most of the day in order to cover as many kilometers as possible - so he may only stop to eat at lunch and at the end of the day when he sets up camp on the side of the river.

If you would like to support Frank on his world first attempt then phone or email Frank or visit his website www.waikatoriverexpedition.co.nz  Good luck Frank.

Cooking up a storm
Peter Blakeway (Taurangas Deli on Devonport and Plenti Cook Schools) recently taught The Steamers how to cook and prepare fresh healthy food at the BOP Polytechnic.  Joe Savage (in picture) learnt how to make and cook pasta from scratch, homemade desserts and much more.  Monday 28th September wives, girlfriends, some BOPP staff and a few lucky others (including myself and my husband) tasted the fruits of their labours.  The Steamers under Peters guidance cooked an amazing dinner which highlighted how much the boys had learnt over a few short weeks.  Well done boys - I hope you continue to cook these tasty dishes at home.
